Hundreds Protest For Bicycle Lane In Budapest
About one thousand cyclists protested on Bartók Béla út in Budapest’s 11th District on Monday afternoon, demanding that ongoing renovations to the major road include a bicycle lane, according to organisers.

Local restaurant and other business owners joined the demonstration, calling for a wider pavement, as well as conditions that would favour bicycles over car traffic.

Budapest transport centre BKK said it has not made any decision on a possible bicycle lane for the street, but a decision will be made within weeks.

The BKK is modernising the tram stops on Bartók Béla út, using EU funds, while city public transport company BKV is replacing the tram tracks and the related electricity supply network.
