Deutsch Insists On Internet VAT Cut
The government has received the opinion of the European Commission on the planned cut in the VAT on internet services, but the government insists on cutting the VAT from 27% to 18% from January 1, 2017, digital affairs commissioner Tamás Deutsch told Magyar Idõk.

The Commission will be consulted on the issue in the autumn, but the planned cut will not substantially change, he underlined.

In addition, if economic conditions allow it, VAT on internet services will be cut further to 5% from 2018, Deutsch emphasised.

He praised the UK practice whereby pornographic and violent online content is automatically filtered out for new internet subscribers, although they can change these settings later. This kind of system will be launched in Hungary from the middle of 2017, he added.

Child protecting filter applications will be available free of charge for all platforms, he promised.
