Hungary’s rate of population decline slowed in the first eight months of the year compared with the same period in 2015, as both the number of births and the number of deaths decreased, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.
The figures show that there were 60,418 births in January-July, a 0.2% drop from the same period a year earlier.
The number of deaths was 82,564, down by 8.9% compared with 2015.
The decline in births and deaths means that the rate of natural population decline was 26% compared with the same period in 2015.
The number of marriages went up by an annual 9.2% to 36,026.
