Her only living relative in Hungary, Marci Gábor, said “regrettably, we had been anticipating this, but secretly we were hoping that she would live to be 100”.
She said she has not yet spoken with the celebrity’s husband, “however I am practically certain that her final wishes will be honoured and she will be laid to rest in Budapest”.
Born Sári Gábor to Jewish parents in Budapest in 1917, Gabor later adopted the name Zsazsa after actress Sári Fedák, who was also known as Zsazsa.
Gabor pursued theatre studies in Budapest and Lausanne and performed in an operetta in Vienna at age 15 in 1932. She was elected Miss Hungary in 1936.
Fleeing the war in 1941, she travelled with her two younger sisters to the US, where she parleyed a series of small film roles into international fame.
