The government has mandated the reallocation of 55.8 billion forints (EUR 180m) in this year’s budget to finance 3,000 new hires by the police, a resolution published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows.
The resolution earmarks an additional 41.1 billion forints in spending in 2018 and more than 15 billion in 2019 to support the staff increase.
The resolution also allocates 1.2 billion forints to expand the emergency services’ communication system to match the higher police headcount.
Hungary’s government decided last summer to add 3,000 border patrol guards to the police force. Hiring started in September.
