EC Inspectors Arrive To Probe Spending
European Commission inspectors arrived in Budapest on Monday to check Hungary’s use of EU funds. The findings of the five-day audit will be fundamental as to whether Hungary will receive further EU funds before Christmas, Portfolio said, citing unnamed Brussels sources.

Should they find severe irregularities among the EU public procurement projects, the EC might even suspend the payment of further subsidies to Hungary.

Pressure is high on the EC to be on the lookout about Hungary’s spending of EU funds because of the numerous negative reports about that and also because of the government’s decisions that critics view as curbing the elbow room of democratic institutions, ATV said.
