Museum Of Fine Arts To Reopen In October 2018
The Budapest Museum of Fine Arts is to reopen after a three-year reconstruction in October, László Baán, the museum’s director, told a press conference.

The museum will open in two stages, in October 2018 and mid-2019, he said. The reconstruction cost a total of 15 billion forints (EUR 48m), Baán said.

The public spaces and the entire utility system have been revamped. The Romanian Hall will open to visitors for the first time since the second world war, he said.

The museum’s first temporary exhibition in October will honour Leonardo Da Vinci, with an equestrian sculpture and ten drawings by the master, Baán said.

Further plans involve a major exhibition of the works of Rubens, Van Dyck and masters of the Flemish baroque in late 2019, and a 2020 sequel to the museum’s highly successful exhibition on Cezanne in 2012, he said.

As regards the National Gallery, Baán said this year’s exhibitions include a video installation by Julian Rosefeldt on the art of the 20th century, featuring actress Cate Blanchett.

The Gallery will also host a show on Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, the first in Hungary, to open on her 111th birth anniversary in July. It will also organise an exhibition on the art of Hungarian painter Péter Korniss, Baán said.
