LIWO Insight: From Carbon Reduction To Employee Development
- 30 Sep 2026 2:00 PM
For the first time, the Group has published a consolidated Sustainability Report and Sustainability Strategy prepared in accordance with the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
LIWO Group’s sustainability strategy is built around eight closely interconnected pillars, ranging from reducing the environmental impact of its operations and developing its workforce to responsible corporate governance.
According to the company, these areas contribute simultaneously to long-term competitiveness, improved operational efficiency and the achievement of its sustainability objectives.
Although the nature of the Group’s services means that its environmental impact is relatively limited, one of the strategy’s key objectives is to achieve a measurable and sustainable long-term reduction in the environmental footprint of its operations.
Over the coming years, LIWO will introduce carbon reduction targets, develop a climate transition plan, gradually increase its use of green energy, and implement the ISO 14001 environmental management and ISO 50001 energy management systems across the Group.
LIWO’s ambition is not only to make its own operations more sustainable, but also to support its clients’ efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprints through its services, while helping its suppliers make their own operations more sustainable.
To strengthen circularity across its operations, the Group will expand selective waste collection, increase the use of concentrated and refillable cleaning products, and seek to provide environmentally friendly alternatives - preferably certified with the EU Ecolabel - across a growing share of its services and products.
By 2030, it also aims to increase the proportion of environmentally friendly cleaning product refills to more than 20%. As part of the strategy, the Group has also set a target to minimise the use of hazardous substances by 2030 and restrict their application to justified cases where no suitable alternative is available. In addition, LIWO plans to increase waste recovery rates, reduce material and packaging use, and continuously improve the green cleaning technologies it applies.
At the heart of the sustainability strategy of one of Europe’s leading facility management groups are its more than 30,000 employees. Over the coming years, LIWO will introduce a role-based training system, a structured onboarding process, a talent management programme, as well as university and internship partnerships.
According to the Group’s 2025 Sustainability Report, LIWO employed nearly 28,800 people during the reporting period and provided more than 63,000 hours of training.
Further strengthening employee health and safety will remain a key priority. By 2030, the Group plans to implement the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety management system across its operations, while also introducing an auditable occupational safety training system, regular health screening programmes and enhanced workplace safety processes.
LIWO Group also aims to further strengthen equal opportunities and diversity. The company will assess and harmonise employee benefit systems, support the integration of disadvantaged employees and people with reduced working capacity, and prepare for the implementation of the EU Pay Transparency Directive.
According to the Group, sustainability and innovation are mutually reinforcing: more efficient operations, a lower environmental footprint and higher service quality all require technological development. LIWO develops and applies robotic cleaning technologies, UV-C disinfection solutions, as well as data-driven facility management and hygiene systems. The company believes that the future of facility management will increasingly be shaped by automation, digitalisation and data-driven operations.
“Transparent, efficient and sustainable operations are not only a conscious choice on our part, but also an expectation from our investors, partners and the market alike. Our first voluntary sustainability report marks an important milestone in our journey to advance our sustainability efforts across the Group within a unified framework and against measurable targets,” said Ferenc Kis-Szölgyémi, CEO of LIWO Group.
The Group’s objective is to make sustainability an integral part of its operations over the coming years. To achieve this, LIWO will establish a unified Group-wide reporting system, introduce a supplier due diligence framework, gradually integrate sustainability targets into management performance evaluation and incentive schemes, and plans to establish an ESG Committee.
