Ruling Parties Approve ‘Stop Soros’ Bill
The ruling Fidesz and Christian Democrat parties have voted unanimously to approve the “Stop Soros” bill, Fidesz group leader Gergely Gulyás said after a joint recess of the two parties’ parliamentary groups in Visegrád in northern Hungary.

Parliamentary debate on the bill can start next week, with a decision expected after the April 8 election, Gulyás said. The ruling parties do not command the votes to pass parts of the package requiring a two-thirds majority which affect the law on national security, he said.

“International attacks” are also mounting against the legislation, he said, adding that the leftist opposition was mostly “pro-migration” and that radical nationalist Jobbik “has flip-flopped” on the issue multiple times. The ruling parties therefore “turn to the electorate”, and parliament is to decide on the proposal after the election, he said.

Péter Harrach, group leader of the Christian Democrats, said that the coalition “faces the election with the calm of true achievements.” Their aim is to keep Hungary as safe as it is now, “as opposed to certain European cities,” he said.
