Timothy and the Things: Waiting for Schrödinger
- contemporary dance
Date: 17 May 2018 8pm
Schrödinger’s cat is a thought experiment, sometimes described as a paradox, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. The scenario presents a cat that may be simultaneously both alive and dead. Neither the cat, nor Schrödinger will be present this evening, instead the doubts and questions that this problem raised in the choreographer, together with 6 fabulous dancers.
Freak Fusion: fightinGravity
- circus
Date: 18 May 2018 8pm 21:00
Like everyone, a circus artiste’s life is dictated by the downward pressure of gravity – hanging in suspension, floating, hovering, tumbling, doubting. But through the medium of circus impossible situations can be brought to life in front of our eyes. What would it be like if gravity was inverted?
How would it be to live life upside down? What would happen if we were literally able to ‘climb up the walls’? This performance takes theories and then shatters them, allowing the audience to experience for a moment what it is like to challenge this ever-present downward pressure.
The Symptoms: Miracles of the Night
– dance
Date: 22 May 2018 7pm
Have you ever lain awake through the night with someone by your side, without “anything” happening between the two of you? And risen in the morning to a changed world inside nonetheless?
A girl busy with her drawing and a boy recreate this strange, dream-like state of something like awe in which two people just stare at each other.
Rosas / Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Salva Sanchis (BE): A Love Supreme - Contemporary dance
Date: 24-26 May 2018 8pm
A Love Supreme is a quartet choreographed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Salva Sanchis in which four performers dance to the eponymous piece of music by John Coltrane, a highlight of twentieth-century jazz.
In A Love Supreme, highly intuitive free expression emerges from blues-based, rather straightforward musical structures; the work is renowned for its exploration of the tension between tonal and rhythmical complexity and simplicity. This is translated literally in the dance: the choreographers bring together improvised and composed materials, interweaving and absorbing them into one another.
