The Central Investigative Prosecutor General’s Office has questioned 32 excise guards who are suspected of having regularly accepted cash from foreigners leaving Hungary at the Röszke border station from October 2017 onward, prosecutor general Imre Keresztes said in a statement on Thursday.
The officials belonged to the staff of the National Tax and Customs Office and acted as a group, he added.
House searches were held on Tuesday and Wednesday at a number of locations and a considerable sum of cash allegedly originating from corruption was impounded.
