More than 40 cannonballs originating from the era of the Rákóczi insurgency of 1703-11 were found by archaeologists in the course of excavating a Szolnok chateau on Friday.
Leading archaeologist Róbert Kertész said researchers are also exploring a two-storey barracks built in the middle of the 16th century.
The cannonballs weigh about 15 kilograms.
The cannonball depot is linked to the time when the castle was defended by Hungarian forces loyal to Rákóczi.
