PM Orbán Welcomes Italy Migration Policy In Letter To Conte
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán expressed “respect” to Italy’s new government, which “protects the EU’s borders with its new migration policy”, in a letter sent to Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in a statement.

Orbán responded to a letter by Conte, calling on other EU member states to commit to sharing the burdens of dealing with migrants by letting migrant vessels to port or by accepting asylum seekers.

The letter, addressed to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and European Council President Donald Tusk, said that Malta and France had already agreed to accept 50 people each.

“We in Hungary know exactly that [border protection] is not an easy task and those engaging in it are constantly attacked,” Szijjártó cited Orbán as saying.

Hungary has stated for years that it would not participate in the redistribution of migrants in any form, Orbán said. Illegal migrants should not be resettled within the EU but sent back to where they came from, which is the only form of help Hungary can offer, Szijjártó said.
