Richest 10% in Hungary Increase Income Share
Hungary's richest 10pc took 24pc of aggregated income in 2025, up from 20pc in 2010, economic research institute GKI said in an analysis published.

During the same period, the share of income of the poorest decile fell to 3pc from 4pc, GKI said, citing data from Eurostat.

The share of income of deciles 1-5 stood at 31pc in Hungary in 2025, a little over the 30pc average for the European Union. The income share of deciles 6-9 reached 45pc, a fraction under the 47pc EU average.

Hungary's one-percenters accounted for 5.5pc of aggregated income, over the 4.7pc EU average. GKI noted that the inclusion of foreign assets in the statistics is limited and suggested the wealth of the richest could be even larger.

The top decile in Hungary owned 50pc of net household assets in 2025, down from 58pc ten years earlier, GKI said, citing data from the European Central Bank.

The share of net household assets of deciles 6-9 rose to 40pc from 34pc during the period, while the share of deciles 1-5 edged up to 10pc from 8pc.
