Budapest Public Transport Mobile Ticket Pilot Project To Expand
Based on the favourable experience gained so far in the framework of this project, the scope of the Budapest mobile ticket pilot project launched in the beginning of this summer is expanding with new products.

The Budapest mobile ticket is the form of BKK’s public transport products purchasable through a mobile application. The mobile ticket can be purchased anytime, anywhere, even while waiting at the stop a few minutes earlier before the departure of the lines.

In the first phase, the mobile ticket was available for the Airport Shuttle busline 100E from June, 2019.

As planned, the pilot project continues, and as a result new public transport products are available in the system, such as:

  • 24-hour Budapest-travelcard,

  • 72-hour Budapest-travelcard,

  • Seven-day Budapest-travelcard.

To reach the new product types, upgrade of the mobile application is required. You can download the app from here.

The travelcards are valid for an unlimited number of trips within the whole territory of Budapest, the Hungarian capital from a selected starting date and time until the end of their respective validity periods.

As you get on a bus that must be boarded through the front door, please scan the displayed QR code with your smart phone and show the appearing animation to your driver.

In the introduction phrase, BKK pays particular attention to the support of the recognition and the use of the new mobile application service to passengers by colleagues during the use of Budapest’s public transport services and during ticket inspection activities.

Based on the experience gained in the course of the expansion of the mobile ticket, further passes are expected to be available in the near future through the mobile application.

The agreement on the public transport mobile ticket was signed by Minister of the Interior Dr Sándor Pintér and by Budapest Mayor István Tarlós on 10 April 2019. The introduction of the mobile ticket is realised as the first phase and part of the Integrated Fare Collection Electronic System by the National Mobile Payment Plc in collaboration with BKK.

Travelling by the Buda Hill Funicular is a pleasant and a fairly cheap way to save your legs a hike when you want to get up to the Buda Castle Hill from the river level on Adam Clarke square. Enjoy the ride on a historical cable car.
