Domingo, who shared the stage with his son, Placido Domingo Jr. and Puerto Rican soprano Ana Maria Martinez, faces allegations of sexual harassment made by nine women in a report published August 13 by The Associated Press.
The loudest cheers for the opera star were probably heard after he sang the patriotic "Hazam, Hazam" ("My Homeland, My Homeland"), the best-known aria from Ferenc Erkel's "Bank Ban," considered to be Hungary's national opera.
Domingo has called the allegations against him "deeply troubling and, as presented inaccurate" and said he believed his interactions with the women to be consensual.
