If Hungary's election were held now, Fidesz would win 47 percent of the vote, up from 46 percent in August, while the opposition Tisza Party trails at 40 percent, according to a Nezopont Institute survey of 1,000 respondents conducted between Nov 24 and 26.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin has summoned Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Moscow again to personally deliver his orders to the Hungarian prime minister," opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) deputy leader Sandor Rónai said on Friday commenting on Orbán's trip to Russia.
Hungary's prime minister has said that a Budapest peace summit was on the horizon and the next 2-3 weeks would now prove "decisive", now that the existence of the 28-point peace plan had been confirmed.
The United States Embassy in Budapest is explicitly preparing for the possibility that Budapest will host a summit between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, according to Robert Palladino, the outgoing US Chargé d’Affaires. Palladino’s post is expected to be filled by New York businessman Benjamin Landa as the permanent ambassador.
