Road Accidents Down 7.3% Year-On-Year In Hungary
The number of road accidents in Hungary was down 7.3% year-on-year to 4,451 in Q3, according to data compiled by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Lighter vehicle traffic in Q3 because of the coronavirus pandemic affected trends, but as a result of the lifting of some coronavirus restrictions a decline in the number of accidents compared to the previous quarter was less pronounced.

In July and August domestic vehicle traffic was only slightly lower than a year earlier, while foreign traffic was still significantly lower.

New measures coming into force in September have again significantly reduced traffic.

A total of 5,885 people were injured in accidents in Q3, down 8.1% annually.

Around 27% suffered serious injuries and some 2.6% died. Driver error was the cause of over 94% of accidents during the period, with speeding being the most cited fault, responsible for around 35% of cases.

In Q1-Q3 there were 10,472 accidents in Hungary 14.9% less than in the same period a year earlier.

The total number of injuries was down 15.7% at 13,786 and of those 323 were deaths, down an annual 22.9%.
