’End Of Time’ Contemporary Dance @ National Dance Theatre, 23 January
Ancient Greeks used two words for time: chronos and kairos. The former refers to unstoppable, chronological time, the time shown by our watches.

The irreversible time of sequential events. What has passed can never be brought back. It passes continuously throughout our lives, like the sand in an hour-glass, and one day it runs out and comes to an end.

Kairos is the opposite of that. It is made up of a sequence of opportunities, it refers to the undefinable, intimate, special moments between events, the constructive, enriching, qualified moments of our lives.

It is literally the right, appropriate, opportune moment, when we feel spring in the air after winter, or when the fruit bursts with ripeness on the tree...

Chronosis like a river. We cannot remember all the water flowing past us. When we look back, we see driftwood and debris left behind by storms and floods on the shore. This is Kairos.
