Control of the coronavirus epidemic reached a new stage the with the arrival of the first consignment of vaccines to Hungary on Saturday and the vaccination of healthcare workers.

The second consignment of vaccines containing 70,000 doses of vaccine arrived in Hungary this morning, and in addition to the five designated hospital vaccination points so far, vaccination of healthcare workers will also begin at other vaccination points.

6,000 ampoules of Russian vaccine also arrived in Hungary on Monday afternoon. The consignment was taken to the National Center for Public Health. This scientific cooperation provides an opportunity for the Hungarian authorities to test another vaccine.

In the first half of 2021, new vaccines are expected to be licensed by the pharmaceutical authorities, and then additional vaccines may arrive in Hungary to begin mass vaccination of the population. The vaccination will be free and voluntary, so it is definitely worth registering so that the authorities will be able to contact the applicants.

So far, almost 600,000 people have registered for the vaccination on the  website https://vakcinainfo.gov.hu/ and by post.

The post office will deliver a letter to retirees in December informing them of the possibility of registration by Dr. Cecília Müller, National Chief Medical Officer. Retirees can also report their need for a coronavirus vaccination by filling out and returning the form attached to the letter.

In order to maintain health protection, the government extended epidemiological preparedness by six months and also suspended flights from Britain.

The protection of the elderly and chronic patients is of paramount importance. Elderly people are also asked to pay close attention to themselves and to the general precautions. Please note that hospitals and nursing homes are still barred from visiting.

In addition to health workers, social workers involved in the defense, police officers, soldiers and civil servants can also use public transport free of charge. Free travel requires an employer's certificate stating that the person is performing tasks related to the emergency or the consequences of a coronavirus pandemic.

There is still a curfew between 8pm and 5am, everyone has to get home by 8pm. One case of exemption from the curfew is work, which, however, needs to be justified.
Sample certificate can be found here.

The shops - with the exception of pharmacies and petrol stations - can remain open until 7 pm and after that the curfew expires, so they can open at 5 am at the earliest. Service providers and services not mentioned in the regulation (for example, hairdresser, masseuse, personal trainer) may operate normally under the rules of the curfew.

The rules introduced so far regarding wearing and keeping a distance remain valid, with the obligation to wear a mask in some public areas of settlements with more than 10,000 inhabitants. It is the mayor's responsibility to designate the areas. It is still not obligatory to wear a mask during sports activities, as well as in parks or green areas.

All gatherings are forbidden. The restaurants cannot accept guests, they can only stay there to take food. Hotels cannot accept tourists, only guests arriving for business, economic or educational purposes. It is forbidden to hold any kind of event, including cultural events as well as Christmas fairs.

Sports matches must be held behind closed gates. The use of leisure facilities is prohibited, including in particular fitness rooms, indoor swimming pools, museums, libraries, cinemas and zoos, skating rinks.

It is still important to keep schools running, so schools are cleaned during the winter break and, where necessary, disinfection is done by soldiers. Primary schools will open on January 4th.

Before starting school, kindergarten and school staff can request voluntary and free quick testing, for which you can register here.

Private and family events (e.g., birthdays) can be held for up to 10 people, excluding those under 14 years of age. Funerals can be held for up to 50 people. Weddings can be held without a wedding, however, only certain people can attend the event.

In Hungary, everyone has a hospital bed, care, a ventilator, and the goal of protection measures is to keep it that way. In order to continue to provide hospital care for coronavirus patients with the increasing number of patients, deferred surgeries have been suspended, and the number of hospitals included in care and hospital beds reserved for coronavirus patients has increased.

In order to curb community spread, we will continue to avoid places where there are many people indoors, preferably keep social distance, wash our hands often and thoroughly. Anyone who has been ordered official home quarantine for a stay abroad or for any other reason must adhere strictly. Anyone with symptoms should not go to the community but stay at home and notify their GP by phone.

Free flu vaccines are already being given as part of health protection. Influenza vaccination is provided to GP practices on an ongoing basis.
