EU Tells Hungary To Ease Border Controls
Hungary and five other member states have received a letter from the European Commission ordering them to ease border restrictions introduced to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Commission also called on Hungarian authorities to proceed in accordance with approved recommendations if they adopt restrictions.

Hungary has ten days to respond. If it fails to harmonise its measures with EU directives within that deadline, the Commission will be obliged to consider taking necessary legal steps, spokesperson Christian Wigand said.

The Commission has also sent letters to Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany and Sweden, as it considers restrictions on entry and departure worrisome in those countries.

The Commission is trying to co-ordinate a less restrictive approach to the movement of goods and people within the EU, Reuters reports.
