Protest Sparked After MOL Plans Drilling In Protected Area In Hungary
Nearly 2,000 people have signed the petition protesting against plans by MOL to drill for oil near Őriszentpéter, a town in Vas county, in a Natura 2000 protected area.

The MOL project company which won the concession in the area filed its request for approval at the government office a month ago.

MOL said that it selected a location that minimises the threat to the environment and the disturbance to visiting tourists.

Petitioners argue that the drilling and extraction would pose a serious threat to those living and visiting the area, the landscape, the natural environment and the protected wildlife.

They request that the permit be refused.
