Number Of 2020 Deaths 6.3% Higher Than Five-Year Average In Hungary
The number of deaths in Hungary grew by 6.3% in 2020 compared with the average of the five previous years, the head of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said.

According to Hungary’s electronic registry system, 140,900 people died in the country last year, 8,331 more than the average in 2015-2019, Gabriella Vukovich said.

The increase was the sixth lowest in the European Union, behind Latvia, Iceland, Finland, Denmark and Estonia, she noted.

Slovenia and Poland are “at the other end of that sad list” with 18% and 19%, respectively, she said.

Last year, Hungary recorded 9,884 coronavirus-related deaths, Vukovich said.
