People Smuggler Suspect Flees to Hungary After Shooting Incident at Austria Border
A suspected people smuggler broke through the Hungary-Austria border in his van on Monday, after which gunshots were fired by the suspect at Austrian border authorities, according to Austrian press reports on Monday.

Nobody was injured in the shooting incident which happened at the Szentpéterfa-Eberau crossing station, Austrian authorities confirmed.

Local Hungarian police told MTI that Hungarian police have mounted a search for the suspect with the involvement of counterterrorism police.

A spokesperson said that earlier on Monday the police had stopped a van driven by a Moldovan people smuggler with 14 Syrian migrants but there was “no direct link” between the two cases.
