The lions sleep at the Chain Bridge

 
One of the city’s most iconic sights, the Chain Bridge is closed to pedestrians and road traffic. During the renovations, the steel structure will be rebuilt and restored. The new LED illumination will be environmental-friendlier.

Road traffic is expected to return in December 2022, while pedestrians will have to wait until August 2023. In the meantime, a scheduled ferry boat service connects travelers between the Pest and Buda sides of the river. Margaret, Liberty and Elizabeth Bridges continue to offer stunning views of the UNESCO World Heritage city.

The Hungarian State Opera reopens

After almost five years of renovations, the beautiful Andrassy Avenue theater will reopen to the public in March 2022. The building has undergone a complete renovation from the basement to the attic.

The opening premieres include Ferenc Erkel’s Hunyadi László, Richard Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, Giuseppe Verdi’s Don Carlos operas and Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Mayerling ballet.

Europe’s most ambitious urban cultural development envisions the complete renewal of Budapest’s largest and most iconic 200-year-old public park. The renewed City Park will be a green oasis in the middle of the city offering unrivalled leisure and cultural experiences for locals and visitors.

St. Stephen’s Hall re-opened in the Buda Castle



The ceremonial hall won the Grand prize at the 1900 Paris World Fair. The finest craftsmen in the country were invited to produce a masterpiece of the turn-of-the-century Hungarian applied art, which visitors could see until 1945 when it was destroyed during the war.

It took 75 years to recreate this “jewelry box” from scratch to its original glory.

The building complex includes a brand-new conference center of 25,000 square meters and a 2000 square meters plenary hall capable of accommodating more than 2000 people.

In addition, the conference room is equipped with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology, a recessed stage and a 72 square meter LED wall. Highlight events will include the European final of the most prestigious cooking competition in the world, the Bocuse d’Or Europe 22-24 March 2022.
