Speaking to Europe Today, Poland's top diplomat accused Budapest of escalating its blockade of a €90bn Ukraine loan and Russia sanctions package, warning that Europe must act decisively as US support falters.
On 24 February, the European Parliament announced that it had signed off on a €90 billion loan to support Ukraine. On social media, some users claimed this showed Brussels had overridden Hungary’s opposition to the loan. However, this is only one part of the legislative process.
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said at a campaign stop in Petervasara, in norther Hungary, that the Tisza Party was funded by Ukraine. "This isn't speculation or a suspicion; it's documented in a written report submitted to the national security committee."
Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has had talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone, the PM’s communications department told MTI on Tuesday. Orbán and Putin discussed the situations in the Middle East and in Ukraine, as well as the availability of oil and gas supplies crucial for Hungary’s energy security, the statement said.
