President Tamas Sulyok has set the date for Hungary's next parliamentary election at April 12, and the presidential office has confirmed it, MTI reports.
The ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrats (KDNP) alliance will field 65 seasoned and 41 new candidates at the 2026 parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Fidesz's leader, told the party congress.
It is "unbelievable" that Brussels is launching another infringement procedure against Hungary, this time concerning media freedom, Zoltán Kovács, the state secretary for international communication and relations, said in a post on Facebook.
Hungary will have an "enormous competitive advantage" in the post-Ukraine war era by maintaining mutually respectful and beneficial relations with both East and West, Foreign Minister Péter Szijártó said.
