Deaths Outpace Births Again in Hungary
Preliminary data show that 7,581 children were born and 9,984 people died in April 2022, with the number of live births increasing by 2.0% and deaths decreasing by 7.6% in June 2021-May 2022 compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

The natural population loss was 2,403 in May this year as against 4,055 in May 2021, KSH said. In May 2022, 7,234 couples tied the knot, up 3.2% from May 2021.

In the past 12 months, 90,379 children were born, down 2.0% from the same period of last year, while 144,494 people died, 7.6% fewer than in the previous year.

The natural population loss came to 54,115 compared with 64,154 in the same period of last year, a drop of 16%.

Between May 2021 and April 2022, 70,545 couples were married, 0.4% more than the previous year.
