Inflation + Forint Rate Hit Hungarian Summer Holidays
Two-thirds of Hungarians do not plan to go on vacation this summer, according to a fresh Publicus Institute survey.

About 25% of those going on holidays had to replan their trips due to the high inflation and the deterioration in the forint relative to the euro and the dollar.

A third of opposition voters and 9% of government supporters answered that their holiday plans had to be changed.

A large majority, 58%, drastically cut their budget and decided not to go on vacation this year due to rising prices.

Within that group, 20% shortened the duration of their trip, and 9% decided to have a holiday in Hungary instead of abroad.

The research also revealed that although it is possible to travel this year, six out of ten vacationers prefer to stay in the country, and only a little more than 25% will go abroad, while 14% can afford both.

The results are based on a survey conducted between June 30 and July 7.
