Xploring Budapest: National Gallery - Local & International Masterpieces

The Hungarian National Gallery in the Buda Castle is the largest public collection of Hungarian fine art, with a great history and lots to discover, as short video below shows.

Its thematic and historical exhibitions introduce visitors to the different periods of Hungarian art history, and also to the country’s amazing past.

After the National Gallery merged with the Museum of Fine Arts, a completely new exhibition concept was drawn up and applied to present the works of Hungarian artists alongside international masters, with the aim of displaying Hungarian art together with international works of fine art and industrial art of the same period. This gives visitors a chance to interpret each period as a whole.

Also you can wander around in a medieval and Renaissance lapidary, or view Gothic panel paintings, wooden sculptures and winged altarpieces, and some major works of late Renaissance and Baroque art. 

Pieces by internationally renowned artists of the 19th century, such as Bertalan Székely, Mihály Munkácsy and Pál Szinyei Merse are on display.

The contemporary collection of the Hungarian National Gallery includes works of art related in some way or another to Hungary from World War II to today - providing an overview of the trends and important artists of the past decades, along with some fine-art features of Hungarian artistic life.

Op-Art Celebrations: Vasarely Memorial Year to be Held in Pécs

Programs will be organized in 2026 in the Baranya county seat to mark the 120th anniversary of Victor Vasarely's birth and the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Pécs museum exhibiting his works, the mayor of Pécs announced.



Exhibition of Italian Painter Giacomo Marastoni at Budapest History Museum

The exhibition is open to visitors until 26 October. A new exhibition titled “An Italian in Pest – Giacomo Marastoni and the First Hungarian Academy of Painting” opens this Thursday at the Castle Museum of the Budapest History Museum. Many of the artist’s works will be on view in Budapest for the very first time.



Liszt Festival in Budapest Blends Local, International, Classical & Contemporary, 9 – 22 October

The fifth Liszt Fest International Cultural Festival will once again take centre stage in Budapest this autumn, bringing together leading figures from classical and contemporary music while also embracing cross-genre collaborations and a wide spectrum of the arts.
