Biggest Survey in Budapest’s History Reveals Residents’ "Genuine Opinions"
The residents of Budapest have stood up for their city, Gergely Karácsony, the city’s mayor, said on Facebook, adding that 136,000 people had responded to Budapest’s first-ever online survey dubbed the “residents’ meeting”.

“This is the biggest such survey in Budapest’s history, with the participation of more than 9% of the city’s residents eligible to vote,” Karácsony said, insisting that the Budapest survey had been starkly different from the government’s National Consultation public surveys since it had “genuinely sought residents’ opinions, whereas the government’s surveys had deceived them”.

Participation in the Budapest survey was almost twice as high as in the online National Consultation drive, he added.

“It is clear that the opinion of Budapest residents simply cannot be ignored anymore,” he said, adding that decisions on matters affecting the city’s future would be taken “in line with the will of its residents”.

Among the issues, he noted the payment of taxes to the central government and transport on Chain Bridge after completion of its overall renovation.
