Shocker in Győr: Chief of Police Taken Away in Handcuffs
Győr’s chief of police was taken away from his office in handcuffs on Friday, for reasons that have not been made public, RTL reports.

Earlier, the Central Investigative Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement that prosecutors are investigating claims of criminal acts committed while in office, and that a police leader had been detained, but did not name the suspect.

According to reports the detained suspect is Attila Váczi.

Magyar Nemzet reports that an entrepreneur had reported Váczi and that a corruption case is part of the story.

The newspaper adds that Váczi’s record does not hint at corruption or any criminal act, and that his colleagues consider him a man with an extraordinary work ethic and a good leader and were shocked to see him being taken away in handcuffs while his office was searched in the presence of his deputy.

RTL reported that the suspect had been a police officer in Győr since 1992, and was appointed chief of police in the city in 2015.
