New 'Alien Policing Bill' Tightens Conditions for Foreigners in Hungary
The government has put forward a new comprehensive alien policing bill which tightens the conditions for non-EU foreigners in Hungary, particularly guest workers. The bill stipulates that foreigners may only be hired for a position if no Hungarian takes the job.

If a position becomes available, the employer must first ascertain whether any Hungarian can be hired for the post. If so, then the Hungarian must be hired. If not, then guest workers may be employed.

The draft states that there can only be as many guest workers in Hungary as there are unfilled vacancies.

Guest workers will be granted residence permits for periods of up to 90 days, or four years, or indefinitely.

The preamble states that residence in Hungary for the citizens of foreign states is not a fundamental right, and that foreigners may only stay in Hungary under conditions approved by the Hungarian state.
