Hungary in Fresh Conflict With German About Gas Transit Tax
Hungary expects immediate action from the EU regarding the German natural gas transit tax, because the unfriendly measure undermines the competitiveness of East European countries and clearly goes against EU legislation, Fidesz MEP András Gyürk stated in an announcement issued.

He recalled that Germany increased its special tax on the transport of natural gas to three times its original value, accounting for 10% of the price of the gas, in January.

Following a similar initiative by the Visegrád countries and Austria, Hungary turned to the European Commission requiring an immediate response, Gyürk said.

"In addition, we are waiting for information from Brussels on whether it plans to initiate infringement procedures in cases of this nature. This is important in order to mitigate the double standard," he added.
