“Fidesz is so desperate that it is now resorting to violence,” she declared.
Szabó reported simultaneous attacks in Békásmegyer, in the Second District, where she was present, and others on Deák tér and Blaha Lujza tér.
According to Szabó, "people who looked like alcoholics or were alcoholics" were approached by middle-aged men in black jackets, who handed them money.
Those accepting the money then reportedly suddenly started shouting abuse about Gergely Karácsony, Klára Dobrev and the opposition.
The verbal assault turned into physical violence on Deák tér, where “we had to close our tent because all of our activists were beaten up,” Szabó stated.
She said that she took photographs of those in black jackets in Békásmegyer, and informed the police, who went to the scene and arrested the troublemakers.
Democratic Coalition leader Klára Dobrev also condemned the attacks.
"Until now, they have only lied about us, discredited us and threatened us. Today they resorted to physical violence against us. Today, the ruling power has crossed a line that only dictatorships are used to. Thus far and no further. We will not tolerate this! Whoever attacks one of us attacks all of us.”
Fifth District police arrested a 29-year-old man on the spot who insulted two activists.
Police told website 24 that the suspect could not be questioned for the time being “due to his heavily intoxicated state".
