- 12 Nov 2024 6:24 PM
Malkovich will be the narrator of the performance dubbed The Infamous Ramirez Hoffman which is based on a novel by Roberto Bolano.
The piece will be performed with Hungarian overtitles three times at the House of Music: from 6pm and 8.30pm on November 17 and from 8.30pm on November 18.
Terenkova's chamber trio will perform music by, among others, Astor Piazzolla, Antonio Vivaldi, Max Richter and Eric Satie, and the performances will be followed by short question and answer sessions with the actor and the audience.
From the prganisers:
John Malkovich, the world star known from the big screen and television, has always felt closer to the world of theatre and stages, so can we see him on the stage of the House of Music, from intimate proximity – viewed from the 320-seat auditorium of the Concert Hall – in a production brought to life by him and the world-famous pianist Anastasya Terenkova.
Music-literature-theatre dialogue for piano, violin, bandoneon and texts by one of the giants of contemporary literature, Chilean Roberto Bolaño – in a captivating performance by John Malkovich. Bolaño became a respected and popular writer worldwide with his novels 2666 and Wild Detectives.
The actor and the trio of chambers performing a diverse repertoire engage in dialogue between text and music. The text is the final chapter of Roberto Bolaño's also in hungarian popular book Literature in the Americas, titled Infamous Ramirez Hoffman. The book is an encyclopedia of fictional literary figures, all of whom share far-right views.
The text in the programme tells the story of a fascist poet-airplane pilot-killer, while the chamber trio plays pieces by Astor Piazzolla, Antonio Vivaldi, Max Richter, Eric Satie, among many others. Apparently Malkovich's voice is the fourth instrument—as soon as it sounds, it immediately creates an immersive effect.
The performance will have Hungarian subtitles.
After the evening performances at 20:30, there will also be a short conversation with the world-famous actor.
