Budapest Heat Record Broken at Pentecost
- 27 May 2026 6:59 AM
Budapest experienced record-breaking heat on Pentecost Monday, according to an announcement from the national weather service, HungaroMet.
The temperature spikes were particularly notable in the capital. The Újpest weather station recorded 32.2 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon, establishing a new record for the highest maximum temperature documented in Budapest on this specific date.
This surpassed the previous milestone of 32.0 degrees Celsius, which was registered in the Pestszentlőrinc district in 2007.
According to forecasts from meteorological site Időkép.hu, this late-May warm spell is expected to peak on Wednesday, with temperatures projected to climb between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius.
However, a relief from the high temperatures is on the horizon, as a cold front is scheduled to move across the region later that afternoon.
By Thursday, conditions will become considerably more comfortable, with daytime highs easing back to a more moderate range of 22 to 27 degrees Celsius.
