Taking the stage at Akvárium Klub’s NagyHall, Deep Forest will bring to life more than three decades of an extraordinary musical legacy, where modern electronic sounds blend seamlessly with the traditional music and voices of cultures from around the world.

The Budapest concert promises to be a truly special experience for music lovers. Iconic melodies, live performance, electronic soundscapes and musical influences drawn from diverse cultures will come together to create moments that are both captivating and deeply immersive.

It will be an evening that takes you away from the everyday and reveals why, even after more than thirty years, the musical world of Deep Forest remains so distinctive, timeless and unmistakable.

The story of Deep Forest began in the early 1990s in northern France, when Eric Mouquet and Michel Sanchez started developing a radically new musical concept.

They combined electronic and ambient soundscapes with traditional vocals, organic rhythms and the musical heritage of cultures from around the world.

The distinctive and instantly recognizable Deep Forest sound that emerged from this approach would later become one of the pioneering forces behind what came to be known as ethnic electronica and ambient world music.

International success arrived with their self-titled debut album, Deep Forest, released in 1992. Its iconic track Sweet Lullaby introduced the group to audiences around the world and remains one of Deep Forest’s most emblematic compositions to this day.

Over the course of their career, Deep Forest have sold more than 10 million albums worldwide, and their international popularity was soon followed by recognition from the music industry.

Deep Forest received a Grammy nomination in 1994, while their 1995 album Boheme went on to win the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 1996. One of the album’s best-known tracks, Marta’s Song, featured renowned Hungarian folk singer Márta Sebestyén and became one of the most significant international success stories connected to Hungarian folk music.

A series of influential albums followed, including Comparsa, Made in Japan, the cinematic and atmospheric Pacifique, and Music Detected, which explored a more contemporary electronic direction.

Deep Forest’s music continued to evolve, drawing inspiration from an ever-expanding range of cultures while remaining true to the idea that had defined the project from the very beginning: bringing different musical traditions together to create a new musical language without borders.

Throughout their career, Deep Forest have also been involved in numerous prestigious international collaborations. Together with Peter Gabriel, they created While the Earth Sleeps, one of the defining songs featured in Kathryn Bigelow’s film Strange Days.

Over the decades, Eric Mouquet and Deep Forest have collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, including Youssou N’Dour, Cesária Évora, Jon Anderson, Sally Oldfield and Chitose Hajime.

As a producer and composer, Eric Mouquet has also achieved significant international success beyond the world of Deep Forest. He worked with Josh Groban on the album Closer, which sold more than seven million copies worldwide, and later contributed to Groban’s Awake album as well.

The track Machine featured the legendary Herbie Hancock on electric piano, while Mouquet was also involved in the collaboration between Josh Groban and Charles Aznavour on La Bohème.
 

Since 2005, Deep Forest has continued as Eric Mouquet’s solo project, opening new chapters in an already remarkable musical journey. The albums created since then have brought an ever-widening range of musical cultures into Deep Forest’s distinctive electronic universe.

Deep Brasil drew inspiration from the sounds and traditions of Brazil, Deep Africa explored the musical heritage of the African continent, while Deep India, created with renowned Indian santoor player Rahul Sharma, immersed itself in the rich musical traditions of India.

Experimentation and constant reinvention have remained at the heart of Mouquet’s work in recent years. Albums such as Evo Devo and Epic Circuits explored new dimensions of electronic music, while Deep Symphonic reimagined the Deep Forest sound through the expansive world of symphonic arrangements.

These were followed by Burning, Deep Ocean and Crystal Clear Modular, each revealing another facet of Eric Mouquet’s continually evolving creative universe. In 2025, Live Machine, recorded during the 2024 world tour, was released, alongside Tree of Tranquility, his latest collaboration with Rahul Sharma.

More than three decades after Deep Forest first achieved worldwide success, its musical identity remains unmistakable. Electronic and ambient soundscapes, traditional voices, organic instrumentation and the musical heritage of distant cultures come together to form a sound that exists beyond conventional boundaries.

Sweet Lullaby, While the Earth Sleeps and many other defining works from the Deep Forest catalogue form part of an extraordinary musical journey in which tradition meets modernity, East meets West, and past meets present.

Don’t forget: On March 4, 2027, this extraordinary musical world comes to Budapest, as Deep Forest - Eric Mouquet takes the stage at Akvárium Klub’s NagyHall.
