Retail Sales Rise Again in Hungary
Retail sales in Hungary rose 3.6pc pc year-on-year in October, adjusted for calendar year effects, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show.

Retail sales climbed an unadjusted 4.0pc.

Adjusted food sales increased 4.8pc, non-food sales rose 3.3pc and vehicle fuel sales edged down 0.1pc.

Retail sales rose 1.2pc in a month-on-month comparison, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.

In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,684bn in October. Food sales accounted for 49pc of the total, non-food sales for 36pc and sales at petrol stations for 15pc.

For the period January-October, retail sales rose an adjusted 2.8pc and an unadjusted 3.0pc from the same period a year earlier.

Commenting on the fresh data, the National Economy Ministry said retail sales again showed significant growth, after a temporary decline in September caused by flooding. The pick-up in consumption is "persistent and dynamic", it added.

For the period January-October, retail sales growth in Hungary was over that in Austria, Germany, Poland and Slovenia, the ministry noted.
