Revealed: Budapest-Belgrade Railway Line Upgrade Timing
The upgrade of the Budapest-Belgrade rail line will be completed by the end of 2025, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said in Belgrade.

Szijjarto said the sides were working to reach an agreement on conducting customs and border checks while trains were en route, cutting travel time.

He added that the project was an "extraordinarily important and successful" cooperation.

"In order for this to be truly fast and convenient, it is necessary that the train does not have to waste much time at the border due to border control, customs control, and passport control, so we are now trying to agree that this customs and border inspection can be carried out while the train is moving, " said the FM.

"Previously, those who lived in the western end of the country may remember when customs officers boarded the train to Vienna in Győr, then carried out the necessary checks until Hegyeshalom, and thus the train did not have to stop at the border as much," he recalled.

"We will also resolve this with the Serbs, so that on the railway line connecting Budapest with Belgrade, it will be possible to travel between the two capitals with a truly competitive, short-time train journey," the FM added.
