Police Launch Probe into Budapest Mayor's Ties to Pride Rally
Police have ordered an investigation into the organisers of the Pride rally held in Budapest on Saturday, the deputy leader of opposition Mi Hazánk said.

Elod Novak said on Facebook on Thursday that "an investigation has been ordered following a complaint submitted against [Budapest mayor] Gergely Karacsony and his accomplices," and he posted a copy of the police announcement. "The situation is clear, given that it was a banned assembly," he added.

According to the criminal code, anyone "who organises a banned assembly, or invites people to attend one within the application of the law on the right of assembly, can be punished by up to one year in prison if no other crime is committed," Mi Hazank's statement said.

"It is a shame that Karacsony will probably get away without being called to account, the same way as [former Socialist prime minister] Ferenc Gyurcsany got away with everything," he added.

He said it was "absurd" that the national investigation bureau's anti-fraud department had been assigned to investigate a case "that is not at all a financial matter".
