Obvious Hungarian Gov't Spied for Putin, Claims Dobrev in Criminal Complaint
Klara Dobrev, the leader of the opposition Democratic Coalition, is filing a report against an unknown perpetrator as she said it was "obvious that the Orbán government may have been spying on Europe for Russian President Vladimir Putin".

At a press conference on Saturday, Dobrev pointed to oil and gas deals that were "against European interests" and vetoes "protecting Russian oligarchs", adding that the European press considered it a fact that the Kremlin could be behind matters.

She noted that penalties for the crime of espionage under Hungarian law ranged from two to 15 years in prison.

"No European Union member state has ever done something like this against the EU," she said, adding that "this is no longer political opposition, but literal espionage; an attack the like of which has never been carried out against EU institutions from within".

She said the aim of her criminal complaint was to put those who made the orders and those who carried them out behind bars. She added that she was curious to see if Hungary's chief public prosecutor would "bail out those responsible", given that an investigation at EU level was also under way.

Meanwhile, Democratic Coalition seeks to increase pensions more than offering 14th month pension

A pension programme proposed by the opposition Democratic Coalition (DK) would ensure an increase even higher than that offered in the government's 14th month pension scheme, DK leader Klara Dobrev told a press conference on Friday, adding that her party's proposal would also ensure that the purchasing value of pensions was retained in the long run.

Referring to the government's plans, Dobrev said Prime Minister Viktor Orban "is again trying to get away without a decent pension hike ... but Hungarian pensioners deserve a system in which they at last enjoy tangibly better living conditions."

DK's pension scheme would seek to restore the pre-2010 indexing system and introduce a "much higher than ever" minimum pension and an immediate pension rise.

According to Dobrev, ruling Fidesz and opposition Tisza would retain the current system in which hikes are based on inflation, which "offers opportunities to play tricks." Orban's government "underestimates inflation each year, and offers a smaller pension hike." DK, on the other hand, would raise pensions in line with the increase of inflation and wages together, she said.

Concerning details, Dobrev said under a DK government "nobody would have a pension below a monthly 145,000 forints (EUR 380), while Tisza would offer 120,000 forints and Fidesz would retain the current, shamefully low 28,500 forint minimum pension."

DK would raise pensions below a monthly 150,000 forints by 50 percent immediately after forming a government, while seniors with pensions between 150,000-200,000 forints would benefit from a 25 percent rise, she said.
