The 33rd edition of the festival, held in Palic and Szabadka in northern Serbia between July 18 and 22, recognises outstanding contributions to European cinema.
Mundruczo, born in 1975, is celebrated as one of the most significant figures in contemporary Hungarian cinema, with his works frequently featured at major international film festivals.
His breakthrough came with Pleasant Days (Szep napok), which won the Silver Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival in 2002.
Since 2003, his films have been regular selections at the Cannes Film Festival, where White God (Feher isten) won the main prize in the Un Certain Regard section in 2014.
His first English-language film, Pieces of a Woman, premiered at the Venice Film Festival, earning Vanessa Kirby the Volpi Cup for her performance, as well as BAFTA and Oscar nominations.
Mundruczo has also gained international acclaim as a theatre and opera director, co-founding the Proton Theatre, whose productions have been staged worldwide.
