'Tour de Hongrie' Road Cycling Race On in Hungary
- 13 May 2025 12:38 PM

"The Hungarian circuit is important for every domestic competitor, I think that's why there is a healthy rivalry between the Hungarian teams," said Balázs Rózsa, the team captain of Epronex-Hungary, who became the best Hungarian in this year's centennial competition in 2016, but was able to wear the white jersey after the first stage in 2023 and last year as well.
Team leader Gergely Kiss reported that they had never had such good preparation. Rózsa, who is preparing for her ninth Tour de Hongrie participation, confirmed this, but added that they competed in Poland last week, where the weather was not kind to them with strong winds and a lot of rain.
Márton Solymosi, a Karcag Cycling ÉPKAR competitor who also participated in the Polish competition, noted that they did not take any risks due to the unfavorable conditions, but nevertheless, the test of strength in Poland was perfect in terms of preparation.
"We covered the route with the team and individually. The fifth and final stage and the third stage leading to Kékestető will be the decisive one in terms of the overall result," said the cyclist. He is starting for the fourth time, and who said that his team's goal is to finish in the top ten in each stage, although he believes this will be a big deal in the strong field, as will winning the white jersey for the best Hungarian.
Team leader Ferenc Stubán reported that in addition to the four Hungarian cyclists, two Italians will be starting, and they will be assisted by three sports managers, two masseurs and mechanics, during the five-day competition.
Erik Fetter, a cyclist for Team United Shipping, said on the M1 current affairs channel that the Tour de Hongrie is the favorite race of every Hungarian cyclist, which holds a special place in the annual calendar.
"We are a new Hungarian team and we have been preparing since the beginning of the year to primarily perform well here, in this competition," said Fetter. He thinks that even finishing in the top ten in a stage would be a very good result, but their team is primarily thinking about winning the white and mountain jerseys.
"I am confident that we can create something great and that I will also manage to achieve an outstanding result on Sunday's final day," he added.
Zsolt Dér, Hungary's national captain, announced on the show that they have already extended the contracts of three of their competitors for next year, but they are planning long-term not only with them, but also with the rest of the team.
"The primary goal of most Hungarian riders at the Tour de Hongrie is to win the white jersey, but it would be difficult to say who will be the most likely to do so. Fifteen Hungarian cyclists are participating in the event, but they are all competing in team colors, which is why we were unable to field a national team. Because of this, I feel a little bit of a loss, but it is very good that there will be so many Hungarian riders in the race," he said.
