MiraTone Festival Returns to Budapest Between 22 - 30 August
For the eighth time, the MiraTone Festival and Academy, founded by violinist Miranda Liu, will fill Budapest with music from 22–30 August 2026, welcoming lovers of classical music.

Over the past years, MiraTone has grown into one of Central Europe’s most exciting international classical music festivals, where internationally renowned artists from around the world not only perform together in concert but also pass on their knowledge to the next generation of young musicians.

The festival’s artistic excellence and innovative approach have been recognised by the European Festivals Association with the EFFE Label on three occasions.

One of MiraTone’s greatest strengths is its continuous and remarkable development. The festival continues to expand its concert program without compromise, inviting an increasing number of international guest artists while the number of masterclass participants and the interest of audiences continue to grow.

The unique combination of intensive professional work, a close-knit atmosphere, and international connections now attracts artists and young talents from all around the world.

This year’s festival line-up is more impressive than ever. The invited artists include Miranda Liu, Daniel Rumler, Igor Karško and Andrii Murza (violin), Tomáš Krejbich (viola), Haruka Nagao (violin/viola), Bartosz Koziak and Tomáš Jamník (cello), László Borbély, François Dumont, Krzysztof Książek and Angela Draghicescu (piano), Adriana Ferreira (flute), Csaba Pálfi and Sérgio Pires (clarinet), as well as the V4 String Quartet, which continues to serve as one of the most important musical ambassadors of cultural cooperation among the Visegrad countries.

The artists represent Hungary, France, Portugal, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Japan, Ukraine, Switzerland, and the United States.

One of the highlights of the 2026 festival will be the Hungarian debut of internationally acclaimed French pianist François Dumont.

Sérgio Pires, the Portuguese clarinetist and principal clarinet of the London Symphony Orchestra, will also perform at MiraTone for the first time. He is considered one of today’s most sought-after wind soloists.

This year’s festival offers its richest concert programme yet, featuring 12 major concerts. On the opening evening, 22 August, the V4 String Quartet will open the festival at FUGA Budapest Center for Architecture with works by Beethoven.

Throughout the concert series, works by 27 composers will be performed. Special attention will be given to the 270th anniversary of Mozart’s birth and the 100th birthday of György Kurtág, alongside iconic masterpieces including Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata, Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet in A major, and Ravel’s magnificent Piano Trio.

The concerts will take place at FUGA Budapest Center for Architecture and the French Institute.

“MiraTone is special because it is incredibly intense. The artists give masterclasses, rehearse, and play chamber music from morning until evening, and then give concerts night after night. Despite this – or perhaps precisely because of this – the atmosphere is extremely inspiring and positive.

There are countless international encounters, shared learning experiences, and returning participants.

Organisers are very happy that the festival’s professional reputation continues to grow every year and that interest in MiraTone is increasing around the world,” says Miranda Liu, founder and artistic director of the festival.

Tickets are available with discounts of up to 30%, without service fees, at https://miratone.jegy.hu while supplies last. It is recommended to secure tickets early, as several festival concerts sell out every year.

The MiraTone Festival and Academy is once again much more than a concert series: during the nine-day event, hundreds of masterclasses, chamber music rehearsals, and professional programmes will take place, while young musicians arriving from different countries will also perform in the MiraTone Young Artists concert series at various venues across Budapest.

Applications for the MiraTone Academy are open for only a short time longer. Participants can take part in solo, chamber music, and orchestral training, become members of an inspiring international community, and receive numerous performance opportunities: miratonefestival.com/academy
