Budapest's 41st Telekom Vivicittá: Spring's Largest Running Festival
- 11 Mar 2026 5:50 AM
What started as a local run in 1986 has become a staple on the European running calendar. The Telekom Vivicittá goes beyond competition — it's a two-day celebration of movement, as reported by turizmus.com. The centerpiece is Margaret Island, the city's green oasis, serving as the ideal start and finish point.
Routes wind along the Danube's most scenic riverbanks, passing the Parliament building with clear views of Buda Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
"When tens of thousands of people cross the Danube bridges together, it generates an electric, freeing energy," says Árpád Kocsis, managing director of the Budapest Sports Office (BSI).
This year, title sponsor Telekom emphasizes digital innovations for a standout experience. State-of-the-art AI creates a personalized video "interview" for each finisher, hosted by Hungarian TV icon Gábor Gundel Takács, recapping their race.
The full weekend streams live on YouTube for the first time, powered by Telekom's 5G campus network, with on-track broadcasts and behind-the-scenes reports.
Up to 50,000 people — over 30,000 participants plus spectators — are expected on Margaret Island.
The event draws the international running community, with registrations already from more than 100 countries.
Event Schedule
The program suits a wide range of participants:
Saturday: Family and beginner focus, featuring shorter distances like the 7 km Midicittá, plus fun festival runs.
Sunday: Long-distance highlights, starting with the morning half marathon (21.1 km) for individuals and relays, followed by the classic 10 km run in the afternoon.
Soccer fans and philanthropists can join the exclusive Szoboszlai Run on Sunday.
Limited to 300 runners on an 11.7 km course, it directs part of the entry fees to the SUHANJ! Foundation, supporting sports access for people with disabilities. Telekom adds a 3 million forint (about 7,800 euro) donation.
