Home Sales Drop Drastically in Hungary
Home sales in Hungary dropped 22.7pc year-on-year to 8,769 in February, a monthly estimate by listed real estate broker Duna House shows. The decline was from a high base, Duna House noted.

Duna House estimated that mortgage outlays came to HUF 250bn in February, climbing 108pc from the same month a year earlier on demand generated by the Home Start subsidised credit scheme for first-time home buyers.

Meanwhile, Home Start outlays reach 27,000

Banks' outlays of Home Start subsidised credit for first-time home buyers have reached 27,000 since the launch of the scheme in September, state secretary Miklos Panyi said at a press conference in Debrecen (E Hungary).

Panyi said the average loan size was HUF 35m. He added that 80pc of borrowers were under the age of 40.

More than 50,000 applications for Home Start credit have been submitted.

Since the progamme's launch, the share of first-time homebuyers on the market in Budapest has risen from 15pc to 25-30pc, while the ratio has climbed from 20pc to 35-40pc in the rest of the country, Panyi said.
