Food prices edged up 0.2pc, but fell 3.2pc excluding the price of eating out. Margarine prices dropped 32.3pc, the price of milk declined 17.0pc and flour prices were down 14.9pc.

Household energy prices rose 4.2pc as piped gas prices climbed 10.8pc and electricity prices increased 2.3pc.

Consumer durable prices rose 2.8pc.

Motor fuel prices fell 11.1pc.

Prices of spirits and tobacco products increased 5.8pc and clothing prices inched up 0.7pc. Service prices were up 4.2pc.

CPI adjusted for better comparison with other European Union member states was 1.6pc.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile fuel and food prices, was 2.1pc.

The CPI calculated with a basket of goods and services used by pensioners was 1.3pc.

In a month-on-month comparison, consumer prices edged up 0.1pc. Food prices, excluding the price of eating out, inched up 0.1pc. Service prices increased 0.4pc, household energy prices fell 1.7pc and motor fuel prices rose 0.6pc.

In a comment on the fresh data, the National Economy Ministry highlighted the impact on headline inflation of mandatory caps on markups for a range of food and non-food products as well as voluntary price restrictions by banks, insurers, telcos and pharmaceutical companies.
