Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met with Javier Milei, the president of Argentina, at his office in Budapest on Saturday.

"Welcome to Budapest President Milei!" Orban wrote in a message on Facebook.

Peter Szijjarto, the foreign minister, participated at the meeting, his ministry said in a statement.

"We hope Argentina's efforts in international politics will be successful, because if the country's rational foreign policy carries the day, it will mean a return to common sense in the operation of international organisations," Szijjarto said.

He highlighted fast-growing bilateral trade between Hungary and Argentina and a cooperation in nuclear energy that is in the making.

Hungary backs Argentina's accession to the OECD, he added.

Sulyok meets with Milei

President Tamas Sulyok met with Javier Milei, the president of Argentina, at the Sandor Palace in Budapest on Saturday.

Milei was met by an honour guard on his first visit to Hungary.

Sulyok noted that diplomatic ties between Hungary and Argentina extended back more than a century and he acknowledged both countries' commitment to advocating their national interests on the international stage.

He praised Argentina for allowing the 40,000-50,000 ethnic Hungarians in the country to continue to preserve their heritage.

Earlier Orban meets with Georgia's PM

Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with Irakli Kobakhidze, the prime minister of Georgia, at his office in Budapest on Saturday, the Prime Minister's Communications Department told MTI.

Kobakhidze is in Budapest to speak at the CPAC Hungary conference.

Szijjarto: Polish PM should also visit Budapest

The Polish prime minister should also come to Budapest before April 12, Peter Szijjarto, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said addressing Donald Tusk on the social media platform X on Saturday.

"You should come to Budapest before April 12 as well! Four years ago, you were the star speaker at the opposition rally, after which we won the elections by 20 percent," Szijjarto said, adding that "Budapest is a great place to be".

Szijjarto responded to a post on X by Tusk suggesting that Polish President Karol Nawrocki's participation at the CPAC Budapest 2026 conference on Saturday was "a serious mistake and reinforces the dangerous strategy aimed at weakening the European Union and strengthening Putin".

Is Europe’s future on the ballot in Hungary? In Budapest, the US vice president is actively stumping for far-right incumbent Viktor Orban who trails in the polls ahead of Sunday’s general election. European politicians sometimes campaign for likeminded peers from neighbouring nations, but in this case, it is the United States openly taking aim at the bloc using the same talking points as Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
