Russian Classical Music Festival in Budapest & Debrecen, 12 - 26 March
The program for the 8th Russian Music Festival, running in Debrecen and Budapest from March 12 to 26, spans monumental concertos, songs, and four-handed piano pieces.

Beyond the concerts, this year’s event — under the theme “Portraits” — will explore Russian composers, teacher-student relationships, and creative influences for anyone interested, the organizers told MTI.

Pianist Marcell Szabó serves as the festival’s founder and artistic director.

As the organizers note, the festival connects the past and present, masters and their students—each piece acting as a brushstroke in the portraits of great composers.

The program series profiles four influential composers: Rimsky-Korsakov, a cornerstone of Russian music; his spiritual heir, the noted pedagogue Arensky; Rachmaninoff, the piano giant who studied under Arensky; and Kabalevsky, who also focused on teaching.

“The portrait of the world-famous Rachmaninoff requires a different approach than that of his lesser-known teacher, Arensky. I aim to reveal something fresh while highlighting familiar traits,” Szabó explained.

Outstanding soloists include violinists Ágnes Langer and Anna Székely; pianists Ádám Balogh, Tamás Pregun, Marcell Szabó, and Attila Szaniszló; baritone Máté Fülep; and cellist Áron Rátkai. The festival pairs music with visuals, as audiences can view unique exhibition materials from the Russian National Museum of Music.

This exhibition showcases original costumes and stage designs for Rimsky-Korsakov’s operas and ballets, vividly recreating the splendor of those productions.

Events take place across four venues in two cities: in Budapest, at the Academy of Music and the Russian Cultural Center; and in Debrecen, at the Kölcsey Center and Liszt Hall at the University of Debrecen.

Ticket Information

Tickets for the 8th Russian Music Festival are available through Hungary's main ticketing platform, Jegy.hu, which handles sales for classical events like this one.

Buy online via ozfjegy.hu or the festival's site for all four venues: Budapest's Academy of Music and Russian Cultural Center; Debrecen's Kölcsey Center and University Liszt Hall.

Expect prices in the range of 2,000–5,000 HUF per ticket based on previous festivals, varying by seat category (e.g., A/B sectors at 2,500 HUF, C/D at 2,000 HUF in earlier years) and venue.

Tickets sold out quickly for prior events, so book early — especially for popular soloists like Marcell Szabó or Rachmaninoff-focused concerts. Dynamic pricing might apply at venues like the Academy of Music.
